Support FSP

The southern coastal areas of California are recognized as one of the biologically richest, yet most threatened, landscapes in the world. In this fast growing urban region, there are more endemic species of plants and animals in San Diego County than in any other county in the continental United States. Both E.O. Wilson (a Harvard ecologist) and Russ Mittermeier (Conservation International president) identify this eco-region as a global "hot spot" for conservation efforts.

Students, scientists, and community members work with FSP to make lasting contributions to the understanding and sustaining of natural systems and processes, and apply this information to regional issues.

While state support serves as a platform for basic operations, the FSP relies heavily upon your help. Specifically, the Field Stations Program receive less than 20 percent of funding from annual California state monies. Therefore, federal grants (such as those granted by agencies like the National Science Foundation) and private donations are essential for maintaining and further developing our four sites and many programs.

Giving Programs

Annual Fund. The FSP Annual Fund is very important to the program's success, as donations allow for the provision of superior educational opportunities. The Annual Fund allows for the enhancement of research activities, database and information management, community outreach, partnerships, and special programs. To make a contribution, please refer to our Annual Fund section.

Benefactors Support. To give to a specific project or capital improvement, please review our Benefactors Support section.

"To a person uninstructed in natural history, his country stroll is a walk through a gallery filled with wonderful works of art, nine-tenths of which have their faces turned to the walls."

-- Thomas Huxley
