| Watershed and Topographic Features: | Tijuana River is an intertidal coastal estuary on the international border between California and Mexico. Two-thirds of the river’s 1,735 square mile watershed is in Mexico. Approximately five to six kilometers (three to four miles) of the river flows through this reserve to the ocean. |
| Vegetation: | Riparian habitat, coastal sage scrub, agricultural land, beaches, sand dunes, mud flats, salt marsh, and open water. |

Directions to the Tijuana River Estuary Visitor Center Take Interstate 5 South to Coronado Avenue in Imperial Beach (not the Coronado Bridge). At the light turn right onto Coronado Avenue. Stay on Coronado Avenue (the name changes to Imperial Beach Boulevard) until 3rd Street. Turn left onto 3rd Street and follow it towards the left. The parking lot of the Visitor Center is on the right. Travel time: Approximately 45 minutes from the SDSU campus to the Visitor Center. Free parking. Free entrance. |
