SDSU Field Stations Program Scholarships: Jordan Dale Covin Memorial Travel Scholarship

Because Jordan valued scientific communications, Jerome and Renée Covin, parents of Jordan Dale Covin, established the Jordan Dale Covin Memorial Scholarship in 1992. The scholarship allows M.S. and Ph.D. candidates to present original environmental research at scientific meetings.
Criteria
Jordan Dale Covin Memorial Scholarship applicants must be graduate students in the College of Sciences in good standing at SDSU. Scholarships will be awarded to persons who have completed or are actively performing original research and are presenting the results of their research at a recognized scientific meeting. Decisions will be made primarily on merit, however, financial need may be a factor taken into consideration. Work related to Conservation Biology and Ecology is particularly encouraged.Terms of the Scholarship
- Scholarship recipients must orally present an original research paper at a recognized scientific meeting.
- Scholarship recipients may also present a poster or simply attend a scientific meeting, however, these applicants will not be as competitive as those presenting a paper.
- Scholarships awarded will be no less than $500 and no more than $3,500 to any individual recipient.
- Scholarships will be awarded to successful applicants annually by the Jordan Dale Covin Memorial Scholarship established by Jerome and Renee Covin, parents of Jordan Dale Covin.
Application
The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships is accepting applications between November 5th, 2007- February 29th, 2008Along with the University Financial Aid Scholarship forms, applicants must submit: 1) a 500-word essay that states the importance of the work being presented; 2) a one-page letter that includes the name, date, location, costs, and importance of the meeting where the talk or poster will be presented; and 3) the scientific abstract that will be or has been submitted to the meeting organizers.
Submit applications and verify current deadlines at the SDSU Financial Aid Scholarship Office.
Applications should be submitted by the February deadline for papers to be given the following semester. Depending upon the availability of funds, letters submitted after this date may be considered. Acceptance of the abstract by the meeting organizers and presentation of the work are conditions of the award.
